National Writing Day 2012

You are invited to participate in the National Day on Writing on Saturday, October 20, 2012! In the fifth and sixth grades at The Summit, we’re celebrating writing and collecting pieces- stories, poems, recipes, emails, blogs, even audio, video, and artwork – for our online Gallery. You can be a part of it! Whether you’re a parent, a teacher or a student, a business owner, or a retiree, we invite you to pick a piece of writing that matters to you and contribute it to the www.summitcelebrateswriting.blogspot.com The National Day on Writing (http://www.ncte.org/dayonwriting), established in 2009 by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) (http://www.ncte.org/), celebrates composition in all forms and demonstrates how writing is a vital part of our everyday lives. Thousands of writers have submitted works to the National Gallery of Writing (http://www.galleryofwriting.org/), an online gallery that showcases works from writers of all ages and talents. Submissions include kindergarten picture messages, YouTube videos, poems, emails, short stories, and journal articles. Need a little help getting started with your writing? Visit NCTE’s website (http://www.ncte.org/dayonwriting2/tips) for tips for writers, sample submissions, and to hear popular authors and celebrities, such as Sarah McCoy who tells us "a day without writing is like a day without food," talk about writing.
